I always wanted to have a different kind of life… but what does that mean? Today’s blog is about the journey of writing my own story, and how you can do the same. Read on!

La Dolce Vita

In my high school graduation book in 2012 I wrote: In 10 years I want to live in Italy. Well, that didn’t really happen — but I guess I always wanted to be somewhere else.

Why?

It never made sense to me to live for a 2-week summer holiday or to sacrifice most of my time for something I didn’t really want to do; to live for someone else’s success.

I have always been drawn to travel, to being abroad, to having international friends. To see something different from the world I was used to. To be on my own time and break the cycle of a draining routine: working 9–5, living for the weekend, going to parties and feeling drained and empty on Sundays, knowing I had to get back to the exact same thing the next day.

I always felt like there was more to life.

And lately I’ve been thinking about that more than ever…

Writing My Own Story

Ever since I followed that first intuitive nudge more than 10 years ago, I have been writing my own story. Although it hasn’t taken me to Italy (yet), it has encouraged me to volunteer in Hungary for a year after high school, and to all the other places I can call home today.

I’m writing my own story, and over the years I’ve always reminded myself that I hold the keys to it. And that this can look very different: some periods are characterized of big steps, and radical changes, while others seem insignificant or slow, but I can surely say that all of them are equally important.

But what does it mean to “write your own story”? I don’t think there’s a definitive answer to that. We all write our own stories, and there is no right or wrong way to do it. You don’t have to be doing what everyone else is doing, and that’s great! For me, writing my own story means first and foremost being in tune with my feminine energy: following my intuition and trusting that being in tune with myself will always help me to be on the right path.

But there is one thing that I want to emphasize today: while you are writing your own story, you are doing it in your own time and in your own way. And as I said, there is no right or wrong way to do it.

I emphasize this because it took me a long time to realize that while we are our greatest potential, we can also be our greatest challenge. Our greatest inner critic, trying to make it right for everyone but ourselves.

The biggest leaps I’ve taken so far have come once I finally started believing in myself, and acknowledging that my dreams have a right to be lived. It was meeting other people on similar journeys and realizing that my dreams weren’t so crazy after all.

It’s still a work in progress, it’s still a journey of self-acceptance and allowing myself to navigate different worlds that I find myself in. Knowing that no journey has to be perfect, I allow myself to be. I’m writing my own story, and it’s the most empowering realization I’ve ever had.

Choosing Your Story All Over Again

Sometimes we think that if we choose one thing or one way, everything will be solved and things will stay that way forever.

But what I’ve realized is that writing your own story is not one choice or one decision, it’s choosing yourself over and over again. And I think that’s beautiful.

I’ve been writing a lot about change and reintroduction lately. Choosing what your story is going to look like over and over again doesn’t mean you have to stick with the same version of it. On the contrary, you can always redefine what that means to you. You can keep going, or you can take a step back and question or doubt. And sometimes all we need to do is acknowledge how far we have come… so here are some reminders, in case you need them today.

10 Reminders For You and Me

  1. You have all the right to follow your dreams
  2. You are not selfish or ignorant for focusing on yourself
  3. Following your intuition isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it
  4. Don’t hold back from following what you are meant to do
  5. Change is only one choice away
  6. Surround yourself with people who want to see you grow
  7. Be proud to step into the unknown
  8. Demand the greatest
  9. Be gentle with yourself when doing things for the first time
  10. You are enough, and you are doing enough

Writing my own story… what a journey it has been! And what a journey it will be — I can’t wait for what’s to come. I hope that what you’ve read today will encourage you to be proud of your own story and help you to grow even more. And I have all the trust that you will 🪴
